Job Description

The University of Northern Iowa's Rod Library seeks applications for an Instruction and Processing Archivist to join our team in the Special Collections and University Archives (SC&UA) unit. This position joins a unit that works closely with the campus community and beyond through instruction, making collections accessible, and reference work. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys teaching about and promoting archival materials and processing archival materials across a variety of formats. Rod Library is at the heart of the University of Northern Iowa and is home to a dynamic group of faculty and staff dedicated to student success.

Responsibilities: Leads instructional activities within Special Collections & University Archives (SC&UA) unit of Rod Library; provides instruction to classes using SC& UA materials; arranges and describes new and existing manuscripts collections and University Archives collections; creates inventories and contextual/historical information for collections; writes and publishes online finding aids for manuscripts and archival collections; provides patrons with timely and accurate information for their reference queries and reproduction requests in person, over the phone, and online; performs digital archiving and preservation tasks; and assists in planning and executing events for SC&UA and/or Rod Library.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in history or related field plus at least one year of experience in library special collections or archives required. Master's degree in library science, information science or public history preferred. Student experience will be considered. Spring 2025 graduates will be considered. Degree must be conferred prior to start date.
